WORKING STYLE in BRITAIN 👩‍💼🇬🇧

Hi, guys! Did you enjoy my blog about activities and fun in Britain?? Britain has a lot of fun things! Today, I am going to write about British working style and how different from Japanese working style. Please check it out!

Working Hours

Almost British people work from Monday to Friday. Full-time job is about 35〜40 hours in a week and it’s about 8 hours in a day. Time worked is started at 8:00 or 9:00 am and finished at 5:00 pm. Lunch break is about 1 hour but some companies have “coffee break time” in the mornings.

What about Japan??🇯🇵 I think we have similar system for working. We work from Monday to Friday and it is about 8 hours in a day. Of course, it depends on the job but we have the same system. Lunch break is same. However, unfortunately we don’t have “coffee break time”. That is one of the British cultures. I think we should have like “coffee break time” because that makes us to do our best for working.

How much is the salary?💷🤑

Of course, it depends on the job. However, the minimum wage is £7.83 (about 1,175 yen) per a hour. (Only over 24 years old) British government is wondering that if it is possible, the minimum wage would be £9 by next year. If you go to work on weekends, the salary would be 1.5 times but it is not compulsory. Average annual income is £27,600 (About 4140,000 yen) in 2015. People who work in London get higher salaries than other people.

In Japan, the minimum wage depends on where you live. The minimum wage is 926 yen in Aichi prefecture. I don’t know it is high or low.🤔🤔 However, it is about 200 yen lower than British. Japanese average annual income is 4.2 million. So, it’s higher than British. Remember before I wrote. Japanese minimum wage is lower than British. Although the average annual income is higher. Why is it? Because of overtime.

Overtime🥵⏰

Almost British people don’t work overtime. If people do that, it is like 5~10 minutes. Sometimes, people work overtime about 30 minutes but it’s not usual. People can’t work over 48 hours in a week under the law. Family life is more important than working life for British people. There is a saying that is “Work to live, don’t live to work”. So, working is a way to live for British people.

What about Japan? I think that overtime is very usual for Japanese people. In addition, it is not like 5~10 minutes. People go back to home at 10:00 pm or 11 pm by overtime. That’s why there are people who are worked to death. This is one of serious problem in Japan. People can’t work overtime over 45 minutes in a month but this is a lot. I think the government should think about it again and do quick response.

Conclusion

Today, I wrote about working style in Britain and Japan. How was it?? I think British working style is better than Japanese. Because they care about family and own health more than working. So, I’ll try to remember “Work to live, don’t live to work.” That’s all for today!! See you soon.😊

I agree with you that the working style in Japan seems too demanding and inflexible. I hope that people can learn to downshift more here.

    Good work Natsuki.
